Who is Ed Sheeran?

Folk-pop superstar Ed Sheeran made his mainstream breakthrough in 2011 with the release of his debut album "+" (pronounced "plus"), which contained his first hit single "The A Team." His second album "x" (pronounced "multiply"), followed in 2014, topping charts around the world and served as a sign of things to come for the young artist, who would continue to break records and top charts throughout his career. His third album, "÷" (pronounced "divide") arrived in 2017 and became the best-selling album worldwide of that year. Its first two singles, "Shape of You," and "Castle on the Hill," broke records in several countries by debuting in the top two positions on the charts.

Sheeran has since released two additional studio albums, including No. 6 Collaborations Project (2019) and = (pronounced "equals") (2021), each of which topped the charts upon their releases. Over the course of his decade-long career, Sheeran has sold more than 150 million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling music artists in the world. He has 101 million RIAA-certified units in the US and has accumulated a number of record-breaking titles including Spotify's Most Streamed Artist of the Decade.

Sheeran's musical style has been described as pop/folk-pop and soft rock. He has been known to incorporate rap into his music. Sheeran has cited acts such as The Beatles, Nizlopi, and Eminem as his biggest musical influences. A fan of heavier music as well, he has also cited bands such as Cradle of Filth, Slipknot, Korn, Marilyn Manson, and Bring Me the Horizon among his influences.
