Aiming for another sunny season in Philadelphia

Last year's Super Bowl appearance showed that the Philadelphia Eagles meant business. Unfortunately they couldn’t crown the season with a fifth championship for the franchise, but the Eagles will go again this season, as they are already slated as one of the only teams that can go head to head against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Aiming for another sunny season in Philadelphia, the Eagles managed to strengthen a side that's already a contender during the preseason with the arrivals of draftees Jalen Carter and Nolan Smith from Georgia.

It’s been five seasons since the Eagles last won the Super Bowl and haven’t had a great playoff record in the prior years with two defeats in the wild card playoff round (2021 and 2019) and one missed playoff season in 2020. Nick Siranni’s men will have to show the whole world that last season wasn’t a one-time trick.

How did the Philadelphia Eagles perform in the 2022 season?

The Eagles had a superb start to the regular season with an 8-0 record. They were led by quarterback Jalen Hurts, who threw for 3,701 yards and 22 touchdowns in the regular season. Wide receiver DeVonta Smith also had a breakout season, catching 95 passes for 1,196 yards and 7 touchdowns. The Eagles' defense was also solid, a very balanced team in all of its lines was starting to take shape.

The Eagles continued their strong play in the second half of the season, finishing the season with a 14-3 record. They won the NFC East division title for the first time since 2017 and earned the #1 seed in the NFC playoffs. Everything was going according to plan.

In the playoffs, the Eagles defeated the New York Giants 38-7 in the NFC Divisional Round. They then defeated the San Francisco 49ers 31-7 in the NFC Championship Game winning their third Conference Championship and advancing to the Super Bowl for a fourth time in the franchise's history.

The Eagles faced the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII. The Eagles hurried out to a 24 - 14 lead in the first half, but the Chiefs rallied in the second half to win the game 38-35 in a very tight game.

Despite the loss, the Eagles had a very successful 2022 season, with just four defeats. They were one of the best teams in the NFL and came within one game of winning the Super Bowl in what would have been a historic feat. They will be looking to build on that success in 2023 and are viewed by many as potential title contenders.

Philadelphia Eagles Key Matchups in 2023

This will be a tough regular season for the Eagles, some huge games lie ahead of them. Super Bowl rematches, heated rivalries and big divisional clashes. Check out some of the key clashes for the 2023 season.

Week 1 at New England Patriots: What a game to kick-off the season. Two of the NFL biggest teams go head-to-head in this fierce Week 1 match, a rematch of Super Bowl XXXIX and LII so stakes are high. The last encounter between both was a 17-10 victory of the Patriots in 2019. In this game we will also get to see if the Eagles can replicate the perfect start they had last season (8-0).

Week 9 vs Dallas Cowboys: Just mid-season, the Philadelphia Eagles host the Dallas Cowboys in a game that's one of the most heated rivalries of the league. This is one of those games that could potentially decide the NFC titles so both teams will have to go out strong. The Eagles have a big home advantage as they have won 12 of their last 13 games at Lincoln Financial Field.

Week 11 at Kansas City Chiefs: A replay of last year's Super Bowl, what more can we ask for! The Eagles will want revenge for what happened earlier this year as they visit Arrowhead Stadium, a fortress anytime the Chiefs play. Both teams were among the best last year and both of them will want to cement their position as favorites for a Super Bowl run again this year.

Week 16 vs. New York Giants: One of the biggest NFL rivalries on Christmas Day, this game is the definition of box office. Both teams have had bad blood since their first encounter in 1933 and the rivalry has no intention of diluting. The Eagles have won the last three encounters, so the Giants have some catching up to do considering The Birds lead the historic record between both of them 92-87-2.
