The classically influenced American progressive rock band Trans-Siberian Orchestra is a highly creative team of talented musicians who are best known for their live performances, featuring elaborate light shows, pyrotechnics and special effects. The band, although associated with the heavy metal genre through a sub-style known as symphonic metal, is clearly in a class of its own, offering an electric string section and keyboards to the their long list of touring performers. The group is considered to be one of the top ten ticket-selling bands in the early part of the new millennium, having sold more than ten million concert tickets and albums.
Millions of dollars of the band's proceeds have been donated to local and national charity organizations, mostly those that target protections and aid to children. Trans-Siberian Orchestra remarkably donates one dollar (or more) for every ticket sold to a charity of choice in the hosting city at each performance. According to a quote on TSO's website, "For the young are the architects of the future and we are the architects of the young. We cannot tell those yet to be born that we did our best."
