Levi's Stadium, a Must for Sports Fans in the Land of Tech

Right in world-renowned tech hub Silicon Valley, Levi's Stadium stands as a testament to the world of sports. Unlike the tech titans in its neighborhood, this structure isn't trying to reinvent the wheel; it simply provides a place where die-hard football fans and the occasional lost tourist converge. Just what fans of the San Francisco 49ers need to see the Niners in full action!

Picture this: a stadium sandwiched between the innovation hubs of tech and the laid-back California vibes. The sunlit corridors, a smattering of interesting concessions, and maybe a tech gimmick or two — because, well, you’re still at Silicon Valley.

Whether you're here to cheer for the 49ers, attend a concert, or just got lost on your way to the latest tech convention, Levi's Stadium is worth a selfie... or perhaps just a nod of acknowledgment. Welcome!

Levi's Stadium Facts

What is the history of Levi's Stadium?

Talk of a new stadium for the Niners emerged in 2006, when the team proposed to redevelop their old stadium, Candlestick Park, in San Francisco’s Hunters Point neighborhood. Negotiations with the city failed, and the 49ers shifted their focus to a site near their headquarters and training facility in Santa Clara.

Santa Clara voters approved plans for the stadium in 2010, and the construction broke ground in 2012. It cost $1.3 billion to build and was inaugurated on July 17, 2014.

Levi's Stadium is considered one of the most technologically advanced stadiums in the world. It features a high-speed Wi-Fi network, one of the largest video boards in the NFL, and a cashless payment system.

Levi's Stadium’s Design and Architecture

The stadium was designed by HNTB, an architecture and engineering firm that specializes in sports and entertainment venues. It is the first new-construction NFL stadium to achieve LEED Gold certification, meaning that it was designed and built to meet high environmental standards, with a green roof, solar panels, recycled water, and other sustainable features.

The stadium design was inspired by the layout of a Roman amphitheater, with a five-story tower containing suites, clubs, press box, and an accessible green roof as the proscenium. The tower is flanked by two large open plazas from where fans can enjoy spectacular views of the surrounding hills and valleys. The main concourse is divided into two breezy spaces: one with views of the field and the other one with views of the hills.

Levi’s Stadium has a capacity of 68,500 seats, expandable to 72,000 for special events. It features 9,000 club seats, nine club spaces, 176 luxury suites, five-star dining, spectacular views, upscale bars, and state-of-the-art support, food service, engineering, locker, and training facilities. The stadium also has an expandable outdoor entertainment venue that can host concerts and other events.
