Kauffman Stadium - Kansas City, MO

One of the best baseball parks in Major League Baseball, Kauffman Stadium is home to the Kansas City Royals. Often referred to as the “K,” Kauffman Stadium opened in 1973 with the Royals playing against the Texas Rangers. It was originally named the Royals Stadium, and renamed in 1993 to Kauffman Stadium in honor of Ewing Kauffman, the founder and first owner of the Royals. Kauffman Stadium has welcomed more than 80 million fans since its opening. It has played host to the 1973 and the 2012 MLB All-Star Games, as well as the Royals home games during the 1980, 1985, 2014, and 2015 World Series. Kauffman Stadium is part of the Harry S. Truman Complex, which includes Arrowhead Stadium.

Kauffman Stadium has a seating capacity of 37,903. Kansas City is known as the “City of Fountains,” and the stadium’s most unique feature is the water fountains that stretch 322 feet wide with a 10-foot-high waterfall. It’s the largest privately funded fountain in the world. The stadium has undergone major renovations in recent years, and fans now enjoy the 84 by 104 foot Crown Vision HD scoreboard, a brand-new interactive crown rising about 40 feet above the field. Upgrades also included fountain view terraces, the expansion of the outfield concourse, enhanced vertical circulation in all levels, a top-notch sound system, an upgraded kid’s area, and concessions and toilet amenities on all concourses. A tour of Kauffman Stadium will take you to areas not usually open to the public. Tours are offered during the regular season and certain dates during the off-season.

Kauffmann Stadium has one premium parking lot, three reserved parking lots and 10 general parking lots. Handicap parking is available in all lots on a first come first served basis. Tailgating of up to 20 people is allowed in Lot N, Royal Way and the Hall of Fame Village. Gates open several hours before a game. The Kansas City Area Transportation Authority Metro’s 47-Broadway bus has stops near Kauffman Stadium, with hours extended to accommodate fans during game nights. There are a number of hotels within a five-mile radius of the stadium, and most of them provide shuttle services to and from Kauffman Stadium.
