Sporting Kansas City was founded in 1995 as the Kansas City Wiz, a member of Major League Soccer’s Western Conference. The name change came when the team rebranded in 2010 after they moved to their current home stadium, Children’s Mercy Park. They are the only major professional sports league to play home games in Kansas. Throughout their career, Kansas City has won two MLS Cups (2000 and 2003), the Supporters’ Shield in 2000, and four U.S. Open Cups (2004, 2012, 2015, 2017). They set a club record in 2016 with their sixth straight appearance in the MLS Cup Playoffs. They are also the third team in history to reach 13 wins for a sixth straight season.
