Despite growing up a drummer and being raised on rock and roll, Coco Montoya grew to become an outstanding blues guitarist. Montoya’s career kicked off with stints in the bands of Albert Collins and John Mayall. He would go on to make his debut as a leader in blues guitar in 1995 with Blind Pig’s Gotta Mind to Travel, earning an award for Best New Blues Artist the following year. Montoya has released a total of 10 studio albums over the course of his 40+ year career. He is known for his signature style of playing, using a left-handed guitar with a right-handed neck, playing with the strings upside down.
