Metallica kicked off their Life Burns Faster residency at Sphere in Las Vegas on October 1, bringing a 16-song setlist, massive visuals and a few surprises to the venue's first metal residency. The opening-night show lasted about two hours and 15 minutes, with Metallica taking the stage around 8:45 p.m.

The band keeps the physical stage relatively simple, putting much of the production focus on Sphere's enormous wraparound screen. Fans can expect classic Metallica songs, changing setlists and visuals designed specifically around each song.

What to Expect at the Sphere

Metallica's Sphere production puts the band on a relatively minimal stage while the enormous screen surrounding the audience changes with the music. The result combines a traditional Metallica concert with a much larger visual environment.

The opening-night show included everything from gothic and horror-inspired imagery to fast-moving cityscapes and massive animated objects. The Snake Pit sits in the center of the stage, putting fans closest to the band in the middle of the action.

Sphere Seating Chart

Sphere has reserved seating across multiple levels surrounding the stage, along with the standing Snake Pit in the center. Lower sections provide a closer view of the band, while higher sections can offer a broader view of the Sphere's visuals.

Metallica Visuals

The visuals change throughout the show to match individual songs. "Now That We're Dead" featured a giant gothic cathedral, while "Wherever I May Roam" took fans through rapidly changing cityscapes.

During "The Call of Ktulu," an enormous Cthulhu-like creature appeared across the screen after James Hetfield dedicated the song to late Metallica bassist Cliff Burton. The show closed with "Master of Puppets."

Bag Policy

Sphere has a no-bag policy. Large bags and backpacks are not permitted, and there is no bag or coat check at the venue.

Small clutches, purses and fanny packs measuring approximately 6” x 6” x 2” inches or smaller are allowed, along with diaper bags and bags required for medical items. All bags are subject to screening and inspection.

If you're attending Metallica at Sphere, it's easiest to leave larger bags at your hotel and bring only the essentials.

Pre-Show Experience

The Metallica experience starts before the band takes the stage. On opening night, Metallica imagery and flags appeared around the venue while music played inside Sphere.

The pre-show music included AC/DC's "It's a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock 'n' Roll)," followed by Ennio Morricone's "The Ecstasy of Gold," Metallica's longtime concert intro.

When to Arrive at the Sphere

Metallica's Sphere shows start at either 8 p.m. or 8:30 p.m., depending on the date. Fans should plan to arrive about 90 minutes before showtime to allow time for security, finding their seats and getting settled before the concert begins.

If you have a floor or Snake Pit ticket, consider arriving even earlier. These areas are standing-room only, so getting there ahead of the crowds gives you a better chance of getting a spot closer to the stage.

How Long Is a Metallica Concert?

A Metallica concert typically lasts around two hours to two hours and 15 minutes. At the opening night of the band's Sphere residency, Metallica played for approximately two hours and 15 minutes, taking the stage around 8:45 p.m. and finishing around 11 p.m.

The band played 16 songs that night, with the setlist spanning Metallica's career from "Kill 'Em All" through "72 Seasons." Fans should plan for a full evening at Sphere, including time to get through security and find their seats before the show.

Metallica Setlist: "No Repeat Weekend"

Opening night featured 16 songs, including several tracks that had not been performed live in years. Most notably, "...And Justice for All" returned to the setlist for the first time since 2014.

"Battery"
"Creeping Death"
"Now That We're Dead"
"Sad But True"
"The Shortest Straw"

Kirk Hammett & Robert Trujillo instrumental
"Nothing Else Matters"
"The Call of Ktulu"
"Lux Æterna"

Metallica will change the setlist for the Saturday shows, so fans attending both nights of a weekend can hear a completely different group of songs.

Metallica at the Sphere Tickets

If you want to catch Metallica during this momentous residency, you’ll need to get tickets via resale, since they sold out so quickly. When purchasing resale tickets, ensure you buy from a secondary ticket resale marketplace you can trust.

We offer tickets to all dates of Metallica’s upcoming concert run, with convenient seating charts, customer protections, and anti-fraud technology to ensure your transaction is secure. Sold-out and high-demand shows are often scammers’ dreams, so we’ve laid out some tips to help ensure your resale ticket purchase is safe.

Avoiding Ticket Scams

When looking for tickets to sold-out shows like Metallica’s upcoming residency, it’s essential to choose a resale marketplace with protections in place for your peace of mind. Look for a solid refund policy. For example, Event Tickets Center tickets are backed by a 100% Buyer Guarantee.

Purchase resale tickets from a trusted resale marketplace rather than finding them through third-party sites like social media or Reddit, where there aren’t ticket protections in place. Often, scammers use social media sites and offer tickets at low prices.

If ticket prices seem lower than expected, be wary of your purchase, especially if it isn’t through a secure resale platform.
