The Quincy Gems is part of the Prospect League, an independent Minor League Baseball comprising teams of eligible NCAA college players from North America and beyond.
While not affiliated with Minor League Baseball, the Gems have a long and storied history in the region. After beginning play in 1883 as the Quincy Quincys, the team was first called the "Gems" in 1907 and had various other nicknames.The team was founded in 1996 as a member of the Central Illinois Collegiate League, and they joined the Prospect League in 2009. They play their home games at QU Stadium in Quincy, IL. The stadium has a seating capacity of 2,500 and features a state-of-the-art scoreboard, concessions, and more.
Over the years, the Gems have had success on the field, with many notable alumni including Sam Coonrod, Adam Rosales, Joe Thatcher and Bryan Bullington.
