Chicago Steel Tickets

Chicago Steel

The Chicago Steel enter the season looking to build on a .500 finish a year ago, a season that left plenty of room to grow in a stacked USHL Eastern Conference. The program's incoming class includes Czech goaltender Stepan Houdek, who has signed on for the new season, plus a long-term boost from fifth overall pick MJ Campbell, a Frankfort, Illinois, product who racked up over 100 points last year and headlines a future group behind a program that keeps turning teenagers into first-round NHL picks. USHL Eastern

Chicago Steel standings rarely tell the full story in the USHL Eastern Conference, where player development matters as much as the scoreboard, but this franchise's résumé speaks for itself. Since 2000, 70 players with Steel ties have been picked in the NHL Draft, including a run that produced top-three picks in Owen Power, Adam Fantilli, and Macklin Celebrini within a four-year stretch. Four alumni have gone on to win the Hobey Baker Award, college hockey's top honor, a rate few programs can match. That pipeline is the real measuring stick, more than any single season's place in the standings.

Chicago Steel at USG Arena

USG Arena events begin a new era for this franchise, since the Steel are relocating out of Geneva, Illinois, and into Chicago proper for the first time, sharing a building with the Chicago Blackhawks' practice facility. The 2,000-seat arena comes with NHL-quality lighting, a center-hung scoreboard, and full broadcast capability, a notable upgrade from the rink the team called home for two decades. Playing inside the same walls the Blackhawks use to develop their own prospects gives this program a direct line to the sport's top level that few USHL franchises can offer.

Chicago Steel Schedule

The full Chicago Steel games schedule runs 62 contests, plus two extra dates at the league's own Fall Classic showcase in mid-September. Green Bay Gamblers games are the closest thing to a measuring-stick rivalry on this slate, with multiple meetings on the calendar and the first home date landing on October 3, 2026. Every USHL season doubles as a scouting circuit, so how Chicago performs against a team like Green Bay carries weight beyond the standings alone.

This is a franchise that treats a single season as one chapter in a much longer pipeline, one that has already sent three players to the top of an NHL Draft board this decade. Watching this year's group in a brand-new building, before the next wave of them ends up drafted somewhere else, is worth doing now rather than after the fact.
