Animal Collective is a unique pop band whose experimental sound seeks to explore a diverse range of genres that include freak folk, noise rock, ambient drone, and psychedelia. The group formed in 2003 in Baltimore, Maryland and consists of members Avey Tare (David Portner), Panda Bear (Noah Lennox), Deakin (Josh Dibb), and Geologist (Brian Weitz). The members met in school and started collaborating and recording together at a young age. They established their own record label in 1999 and released their debut album, Spirit They’re Gone, Spirit They’ve Vanished in 2000. In 2009, the band released their most commercially successful album, Merriweather Post Pavilion, which was called: "one of the landmark American albums of the century so far.” Come out to one of their shows and see what all the fuss is about!
