Daytime Activities:

If you have a trip planned to Colorado or Red Rocks, you should check out Red Rocks during the day. The park is open to all and parking and admission to the park are free on both event and non-event days. The park is open from one hour before sunset to one hour after sunset each day, 365 days a year.

Hiking & Trails

Red Rocks has five trails spreading across the park's grounds (with a few extra paths to help patrons get to and from the amphitheatre): The Trading Post Trail, The Red Rocks Trail, The Funicular Trail, The Mt. Vernon Creek Trail, and The Geologic Overlook Trail. With the exception of The Red Rocks Trail, each trail is fairly short as far as Colorado hikes go, but they each offer a unique and fun experience. Each trail is embedded into the nature of the Rocky Mountains, so be sure to look out for wildlife of all kinds!

The Trading Post Trail: The Trading Post trail is a 1.4 mile loop that begins and ends next to the Trading Post. The dirt trail meanders through some beautiful geologic formations, valleys, and meadows. This hike isn't too strenuous by any means, but a few small bits of the trail can have some tough terrain, so comfortable shoes are recommended. The best place to park for this trail is the Trading Post Lot, but the second best option will be Lower South Lot 1.

The Red Rocks Trail: The Red Rocks Trail is the longest trail on the grounds. It is located on the east side of the park and is a multi-use trail for uses including hiking, biking, and horseback. The trail runs North towards Matthews Winters Parks and loops around for a total length of 6 miles. This is the only trail in the park where bikes (and class 1 e-bikes are permitted). If you plan on taking this hike, we recommend parking in the Lower North Lot, as this is the closest lot to the trail head.

The Funicular Trail: The Furnicular Trail is a short (less than a quarter mile) and steep trail connecting the parking lots along Trading Post Road (Half Moon Lot, Small Parking Lot, and Lower North Lot) to the Upper North Lot. Although the distance is short, don't be fooled. The sudden elevation gain makes this a tough hike. To park for the funicular trail, we recommend using one of 4 parking lots. The Lower North Lot, Half Moon Lot, and Small Parking Lots will all be located at the bottom of the trail. Th eUpper North Lot is located at the top of the trail. They all give you direct access to the trail.

The Mt. Vernon Creek Trail: The Mt. Vernon Creek Trail is a one mile trail that is one mile in length along Mt. Vernon Creek. It begins at the base of The Red Rocks Trail and meanders its way to and connects with the Trading post Trail. This trail offers unmatched views of the amphitheatre making. We recommend parking in the Lower South Lot if you plan on taking this hike.

The Geologic Overlook Trail: Finally, The Geologic Overlook Trail is a short trail in the northwest corner of the park. It's considered to be a moderate trail that offers beautiful overlooking views of the entire park, cities of Morrison and Denver, and expansive views of the Colorado Mountains. To take this trail, park in the Upper North Lot for easy access to this hike.

Visitor Center & Colorado Music Hall of Fame

One of the things that makes Red Rocks so great is its rich history. Over the last 100 plus years, Red Rocks has seen some incredible performances. The Red Rocks Visitor Center and Colorado Music Hall of Fame, located beneath the upper concourse (AKA the Top Plaza) of the amphitheatre, is a beautiful music museum housing the records and shrines dedicated to the legendary performances of Red Rocks. Learn all about the venue's first four-day performance from John Denver, the Beatles' first show at Red Rocks, and so many more. This alone is worth a trip to the park, and is definitely worth visiting if you're already in the park.

Yoga on the Rocks & Film on the Rocks

Red Rocks also hosts daytime events regularly during the summer event season. Two of the most popular of these events are Yoga on the Rocks and Film on the Rocks.

Yoga on the Rocks is an event held on most Saturday mornings. It's led by an instructor of one of Red Rocks' three partner Yoga Studios: The River Yoga, Better Buzz Yoga, and Rooted Heart Yoga and Wellness. The event starts at 7:00 AM and doors open at 6:00 AM. It's recommended to get there at 6:00 AM to avoid traffic and congestion. All you need to bring is a filled water bottle and a yoga mat. It's a great way to start your weekend morning. You get unbelievable sunrise views over the Denver skyline in the fresh and crisp Rocky Mountain Air.

Film on the Rocks is an event held a few times throughout the year where Red Rocks chooses a timeless film to show at the amphitheatre. In 2025, Red Rocks has shown Legally Blonde, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, Shrek 2, and Pirates of the Caribbean, for example. Film on the Rocks occurs during the nighttime. The doors open at 6:30 PM and entertainment begins at 7:00 PM. The film itself begins at 8:30 PM. Film on the Rocks is a great time, no matter what movie you're watching. It's recommended to bring a blanket, and concessions are available, but it might be wise to bring a snack too. This is a perfect way to spend a summer evening with the family as well!
