Northwell Health at Jones Beach Theater - Wantagh, NY

One of two major outdoor amphitheaters in the New York City area, Jones Beach Theater is located within Jones Beach State Park, a 2,413-acre barrier island with 6.5 miles of ocean coastline. The venue was originally called the Jones Beach Marine Stadium, a temporary wooden structure constructed in the early 1930s, and was known for aquatic sports events and musical entertainment. The “new” Jones Beach Marine Theater opened in 1952, and until 1981, the venue hosted musicals and Broadway shows. In the early ’80s, it started focusing on hosting live concerts, and by the ’90s, the venue underwent extensive renovations and increased its seating capacity to 15,000. Legendary music artists who have graced its stage include Jason Mraz, Ringo Starr, and Joe Cocker, to name a few.

Jones Beach Theater is about an hour away from New York City, and accessible by train or bus, cab, or private car. There are parking lots near the venue where guests can park for free. Tailgate parties may be allowed for certain concerts. One factory-sealed bottle of water, umbrella, jacket, non-professional camera, binoculars, and a small handbag are allowed. Do take note that the show will go on rain or shine.

Since it is located within the Jones Beach State Park, patrons can enjoy a host of attractions for the whole family before or after the event. These include two swimming pools, beaches with a boardwalk, and a miniature golf course. Educational tours and programs are also offered at the park’s Theodore Roosevelt Nature Center.
