Update: This article has been updated as of 11/26/2019 with new concerts and shows coming to the Anthem!

Original Article:On Oct. 12, D.C.-area native David Grohl and his band, The Foo Fighters, will make history on Grohl’s home turf. They’ll open a new venue, performing the first concert ever held at The Anthem—a new $60 million arena featuring a moveable stage and backdrop that allows audience capacities ranging from 2,500 to 6,000 music-lovers.

The matchup was fate. In fact, the chairman of the state-of-the-art stadium said that there was never a backup plan, that the local-boy-done-good was the only choice to open the new venue. Other acts that are scheduled to appear include Kaleo, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue, Phoenix, Primus and The Shins.

The Anthem is part of the District Wharf, a mile-long development along the Potomac River, designed to reestablish D.C. as a waterfront city, the way it was intended at its birth. It includes retail, residential and office space and will be a vibrant cultural destination for generations to come. In other words, it’s going to draw a lot of people.
