The Blackbyrds Live in Bethesda

Formed in the early 1970s at Howard University under the guidance of jazz trumpeter Donald Byrd, The Blackbyrds quickly established themselves as pioneers of the jazz-funk and rhythm and blues genres. Blending sophisticated jazz harmonies with infectious dance rhythms, the collective scored numerous chart-topping hits, including the crossover smash Walking in Rhythm and the soulful anthem Rock Creek Park. Their distinct fusion of brass, keyboards, and vocal harmonies continues to influence contemporary hip-hop sampling and modern R&B, making their live performances a masterclass in American popular music history.
