WHL Western

A new rivalry with the Kelowna Rockets defines Penticton's spot in the WHL's Western Conference and B.C. Division, one both cities' mayors have already embraced as the league's newest local grudge match. The Vees needed just one season to make their mark, finishing 44-14-6-4, the best regular-season record by an expansion team in Canadian Hockey League history, and taking the B.C. Division title. South Okanagan Events Centre has hosted hockey in Penticton since it opened in 2008, and the bowl, shaped like a horseshoe, seats close to 4,700 fans once it's configured for a game. A retractable seating system lets the building flip between hockey and other configurations faster than most WHL venues manage, and the rink shares the complex with the Okanagan Hockey Academy, keeping the building busy well outside of Vees game nights.
