WHL Western

Kelowna plays out of the Western Conference's B.C. Division, one of the most physical corners of the WHL and home to the Rockets' Highway 97 rivalry with the Kamloops Blazers. That rivalry boiled over again in the spring of 2026, when Kelowna swept the Blazers in four straight games to open the playoffs. Prospera Place has been the Rockets' home since 1999, a roofed arena in downtown Kelowna that seats 6,886 for hockey and was built well enough that touring acts like Aerosmith and Cirque du Soleil have booked stops of their own. Inside, the building runs loud from puck drop, with a lower bowl that presses right against the glass and a concourse anchored by Manhattan Point, the arena's own restaurant. The building has hosted a national championship before, and the atmosphere on a rivalry night still carries that same big-game feel.

Four Ed Chynoweth Cup banners hang in Kelowna's rafters, won in 2003, 2005, 2009, and 2015, with Jamie Benn leading all playoff scorers during that 2009 run. The 2026 push ended in the second round against the Everett Silvertips, who went on to win the league title outright, but Kelowna still got a full season's worth of hockey out of hosting the Memorial Cup that followed.
