From 1975 to 2020, Johnson City, Tennessee, was home to the Johnson City Cardinals, until 2021, replaced by Johnson City Doughboys, name referencing the statue behind the home stadium, TVA Credit Union Ballpark, a nickname for American soldiers during World War I. In 2021, their inaugural season ended with 16-32-1.
