WHL Western

The Giants play in the B.C. Division of the WHL's Western Conference, sharing the province with rivals scattered from Kamloops to Victoria. None stirs more history than the cross-strait series against the Victoria Royals, renewed every regular season. Milan Lucic anchored the Giants' physical identity during their 2006 and 2007 championship runs before an NHL career that spanned 17 seasons and ended with his retirement this June. A move 36 kilometres from downtown Vancouver brought the Giants to their current home in 2016, trading the cavernous Pacific Coliseum for a tighter building built for junior hockey. A sweep of the Moose Jaw Warriors in 2006 delivered the franchise's only Ed Chynoweth Cup. The following spring, the Giants lost the WHL final to the Medicine Hat Tigers but still captured the 2007 Memorial Cup as tournament hosts, beating that same Tigers team in the final. A third trip to the league championship came in 2019, when Vancouver fell to the Prince Albert Raiders in a seven-game series. Last season's non-playoff finish adds another chapter to the wait, and the current core hopes to change that this year.
