Shovels and Rope is an indie folk group formed in 2008 in Charleston, South Carolina. Husband and wife Carry Ann and Michael Hearst joined musical forces, bringing together vocal harmony with traditional folk instruments such as harmonica, keyboard, and various traditional percussion instruments.
