Shea’s Buffalo Theatre opened in 1926 as an elaborate movie theater created in the vein of European opera houses. The interior was fashioned in neo-Spanish Baroque style by Tiffany Studios, featuring ornate gold accents and an intricately carved and painted ceiling. The space has played host to vaudeville shows, Broadway productions and more. The original theater is now contained within the larger Shea’s Performing Arts Center complex. It is the only remaining Tiffany-designed theater in the country.

In addition to Shea’s Buffalo Theatre, the complex also houses Shea’s Smith Theatre and 710 Main Theatre. The property has undergone extensive restoration projects over the years, and more than $30 million has been invested to preserve its mystic for generations to come.

Traveling Broadway productions have found a home at the performing arts center, and the stage has played host to Wicked, The Sound of Music and Cabaret, to name a few. Dance troupes, including Shen Yun Performing Arts, have graced the stage, and the venue occasionally books concerts, variety shows and free movie nights. Shea’s offers educational programming as well and serves more than 10,000 students each year.
