Charlie Wilson, fondly known as Uncle Charlie, was the lead vocalist of The Gap Band before he embarked on a solo career that earned him the title as one of the best R&B and soul artists of his era. Wilson has been nominated for eleven Grammy Awards and six NAACP Image Awards. He was also the recipient of the 2009 Soul Train Icon Award and BMI Icon Award in 2005. His song “There Goes My Baby” was named number one in its genre by Billboard Magazine in 2009. The talented artist was honored in the 2013 BET Awards with a Lifetime Achievement Award.
