Swiss folk metal band Eluveitie was founded by Chrigel Glanzmann in 2002. Glanzmann’s successful debut EP Vên led to the recruitment of a full band, with the outfit releasing their collective debut full-length album Spirit in June 2006. Eluveitie was signed to a major label shortly thereafter, releasing Slania in 2008 and making their mainstream breakthrough. Slania peaked at the number 35 spot in the Swiss charts and 72 in the German charts. The group, who describe themselves as “the new wave of folk metal,” incorporate characteristics of melodic death metal, fused with traditional Celtic music. They have released a total of eight studio albums to date.
