Heavy metal band GWAR formed in 1984 in Richmond, Virginia. Following the death of frontman and lead singer Dave Brockie in 2014, the group has continued without any original members, although Don Drakulich, a non-instrument-performing member of the group, has been with GWAR since 1985. GWAR is known for their elaborate, dark costumes that revolve on sci-fi mythology. Their live performances have attracted acclaim and controversy, particularly for graphic violence (labeled as “shock rock”).
