MLB Secondary Ticket Sales Leaders

Judge and Bellinger Power MLB Ticket Sales

Two young power hitters drive ticket sales in New York and LA, soccer heats up and two fighters slug their way to the top – all that plus a look at the craziness in the National League West for this week’s edition of the Event Tickets Center Sports Hot 20.

Baseball: Big Markets Roar Back

After Detroit and Texas pushed their way into the top five last week, the Yankees and Dodgers bumped them out this week. The Royals and Blue Jays continued their slow dance at the top with the Royals regaining the number one position this week.

Big cities, bigger power

For New York and Los Angeles, the first half of the 2017 season has been defined by one thing: Power. As in rookies Aaron Judge and Cody Bellinger. Judge’s 24 homers lead Major League Baseball, but he’s only two ahead of Dodgers rookie Bellinger, who has 22 homers in his first 53 games. Bellinger’s power is historic – he’s the youngest player ever to hit 10 homers in 10 games.

These guys aren’t just dropping them over the fence, they’re sending baseballs into orbit. According to ESPN, 8 of Judge’s 24 homers qualify as “no doubters.” That includes the 495-foot blast he hit at Yankee Stadium. Bellinger is a tad less prodigious, “only” five of his 22 homers were no doubters. When one of these two young sluggers comes to your city, going early to see batting practice is a must.

That crazy NL West

The National League West is just insane this year. The Dodgers, Rockies and Diamondbacks are all on pace to win more than 100 games. If this holds, one lucky team will win the division and the other two will face off in the dreaded 1-game playoff. That means there’s a good chance a team with 100 wins will not even make the Division Series round of the postseason. Crazy.

Each team is loaded with must-see stars, starting with the Dodgers. Clayton Kershaw is doing Clayton Kershaw things as the first pitcher to reach 10 wins in the National League. Reigning NL Rookie of the Year Corey Seager shows no signs of a sophomore slump and, at this rate, will just hand the award to his teammate Bellinger.

In Colorado, one name reigns supreme: Nolan Arenado. Last Sunday he became the first player in baseball history to complete the cycle with a come-from-behind, walk-off homerun. His Father’s Day effort completed a sweep of the Giants and kept the Rox ahead of the surging Dodgers.

It’s hard to tell what’s hotter in Phoenix right now: The temperature or the Diamondbacks. Led by perennial All-Star Paul Goldschmidt and pitcher Zack Greinke, the D-backs aren’t backing down.

All this success is showing up in ticket sales. The Dodgers and Rockies are in the top 10 for most secondary sales and the D-backs just missed. With big home games coming up against the Cardinals and Rockies, don’t be surprised if Arizona cracks the top 10 very soon.

International Friendly Soccer Heats Up

We saw the tickets for the International Friendly series pick up steam in late May as a set of games approached, and at the time we projected the same would happen at the end of June. That projection appears to be coming true as it’s the highest non-baseball event ranking this week.

There are three games coming up in the series:

  • June 28 Mexico vs Ghana at NRG Stadium
  • July 1 United States vs Ghana at Pratt and Whitney Stadium
  • July 1 Mexico vs Paraguay at CenturyLink Field

McGregor vs Mayweather Tickets

Does UFC star Conor McGregor really have much of a chance in a boxing match against Floyd Mayweather? Fans want to find out and they’re already flocking to get tickets for the August 26 fight at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. McGregor vs Mayweather is so hot it even outranks UFC 214: Cormier vs Jones 2 on this week’s list. Jon Jones is looking to get his second win against Daniel Cormier after topping him in UFC 182 back in 2015.

What else is hot in sports? U.S. Open Tennis is selling well, and WWE is always hot as we head into summer. For a complete look, be sure to check out the Sports section on Event Tickets Center to see what’s selling best right now.
