The Bellwether - Los Angeles, CA

Welcome to the newest music venue in Los Angeles – the beautiful Bellwether. The Bellwether is a nightlife destination and music venue that was conceived by Michael Swier – the mind who created two of Los Angeles’s most entrenched independent musical venues Teragram Ballroom and the Moroccan Lounge. Together with Bay Area’s Another Planet Entertainment (APE), the Bellwether will draw a diverse and iconic list of bands in a relatively-modest space that contains a balcony, wooden dance floor, bar, restaurant, open-air lounges, and private space for events.

What are the first acts to debut at The Bellwether in the inaugural year?

Working with legendary Bay Area promoters, Another Planet Entertainment, the Bellwether has already booked and scheduled a number of acts and bands through Autumn. The first band to join the grand opening will be Phantogram (July 11). Other acts that will play The Bellwether include: Tycho (July 13), HAIM (July 17-18), Andrew Bird (July 21), Porter Robinson (July 27-29), Santigold (August 8), Carly Rae Jepsen (August 11), Tegan and Sara (August 14), Isaiah Rashad (August 18), Yo La Tengo (September 29), and Wilco (October 11).

Capacity and Location:

The Bellwether is located at 333 South Boylston Street. It’s on the opposite side of the I-110 freeway from the hip and trendy Downtown Los Angeles (known locally as DTLA), next to L.A. Center Studios. The Bellwether holds 1,600 fans spread across their floor and balcony.

What makes The Bellwether Unique?

In addition to being the newest music venue in Los Angeles, it was created with the goal to evolve the Los Angeles music scene and to eventually be considered a cultural institution that can be mentioned in the same breath as some other legendary musical spots along the West Coast including The Greek and The Fox Theatre. It was no coincidence that The Bellwether was conceived with some of the same minds who built the Greek and the Bowery and the Mercury Lounge and Bowery Ballroom in New York. Every bit of design and creative thinking with The Bellwether was to facilitate the development and promotion of long-term artist development.

For the artists, no detail was left untouched: Facilities for them include easy and accessible load-in space, dressing rooms, private bathrooms, and even an office to handle production.

From a musical experience standpoint, The Bellwether was designed using the latest technological advances and venue design. The ballroom is outfitted with custom lighting, wooden dance floor, a 270-degree wraparound balcony, and a state-of-the-art d&b audiotechnik sound system. The venue also features unimpeded sightlines that provide concertgoers with great vantage points from almost anywhere in the house.

Ultimately, The Bellwether was designed to advance and innovate the music and event experience not just for fans, but for bands and musical acts, too.

What is the Emerald Room?

Another aspect of The Bellwether that make it a unique event-going experience is that it contains the Emerald Room, an exclusive space that can be accessed before, during, and after an event and includes premier entry access to The Bellwether, preferred seating adjacent to the sage, a private bar with unique and exclusive drinks, complimentary hor d’oeuvres, and private bathrooms.

Accessibility

The Bellwether has wheelchair accessible seating and even if you were unable to get tickets for accessible seating, Bellwether staff can accommodate you the evening of the event. It is recommended that you arrive as close to the opening doors as possible and be sure to request the ADA liaison at the entrance to be escorted to your seats.

Parking & Rideshare

Located adjacent to both the Financial District and Westlake neighborhoods, there are numerous indoor and surface parking lots as well as limited on-street parking. Any rideshare platform should get you directly to The Bellwether’s main entrance on Boylston Street.
