Scottish post-rock group Mogwai formed in Glasgow in 1995 by longtime friends who made it a goal to create “serious guitar music.” The band would go on to do much more than that over the course of their career, composing lengthy guitar-driven instrumental pieces that feature dynamic contrast, melodic bass lines, and heavy use of distortion and effects. Mogwai has released a total of nine albums since making their debut, drawing on influences from the likes of Fugazi, MC5, My Bloody Valention, Sonic Youth, Pixies, Slint, and The Cure.
