They were the first of that group to receive a Grammy nomination, the first to earn a gold, platinum, (King of Rock, 1985), and multi-platinum record (Raising Hell, 1986), the first to have a Top 10 pop charting rap album the first hip-hop group to grace the cover of Rolling Stone, and the first to make a video appearance on MTV, among many other recording-breaking firsts for the genre. Run DMC became the second hip hop group inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and in 2016, they received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. They have been credited with creating the sound and style of hip-hop music.
