Who is Paul McCartney?

Living legend Sir Paul McCartney attained worldwide fame as the bass player in the most influential rock band of all time, The Beatles. He made up one-half of pop music’s greatest songwriting partnership, creating words and music alongside fellow Beatle John Lennon. Their songs inspired changes to the industry and the partnership is known as one of the most successful collaborations in music history.

Parting ways from the band in 1970, McCartney embarked on a solo career that proved to be the most successful of all the former Beatles, maintaining a constant presence on the charts in the US and abroad for over two decades. Shortly after the breakup of the Beatles, McCartney formed rock group Wings with his wife Linda and Moody Blues guitarist Denny Laine. The group maintained a successful career for ten years, releasing a string of hit albums and singles and touring extensively around the globe. Within the first 12 years of going solo, he had nine number-one singles and seven number one albums in the US alone.

McCartney is regarded as one of the most successful composers and performers of all time. He has sold more than 100 million albums and 100 million singles throughout his 60-year career, written 129 songs that have cracked the charts (32 of them hitting number one), earned 18 Grammy Awards and 60 gold albums. The numbers don’t lie, and at 76 years old, McCartney is still at the top of his game showing no signs of slowing down.
