Red Velvet is a South Korean girl-group, formed in Seoul in 2014. The five-member group joined forces drawing on inspiration from prominent female vocal acts like Gwen Stefani, Destiny’s Child, and En Vogue. Red Velvet’s music is characterized by dance-friendly contemporary beats fused with R&B and pop elements. Their debut EP, Ice Cream Cake, topped the Gaon Albums Chart in 2015, and was followed by more of the same success with later releases. Red Velvet has released two full-length studio albums, The Red (2015) and Perfect Velvet (2017). They have won several awards for their music and choreography since making their initial debut, including the Gold Disc New Artist Award and the Mnet Asian Music Award for Best Female Group in 2017.
