One of Chicago’s premier traditional theaters, Royal George Theatre is known for presenting off-Broadway and pre-Broadway productions as well as theatrical events. The 452-seat Main Stage Theater boasts comfortable fixed seating in two levels with excellent sightlines and great acoustics. Royal George Theatre has three other smaller venues: the 199-seat Cabaret Studio, ideal for small musicals and plays; the 100-seat Great Room, best for one-person shows and meetings; and the 50-seat Gallery, which suits intimate small-scale productions.

Royal George Theatre’s first show was Little Shop of Horrors, which kicked off a career full of classic Broadway shows and experimental new plays alike. Its past productions include The Grapes of Wrath, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Spamilton—a musical parody of the Broadway musical hit Hamilton. The venue was also home to the first national touring production of Angels in America.

Royal George Theatre is located right in the heart of the Lincoln Park neighborhood, about 10 minutes from downtown Chicago. With upscale shopping, bars and restaurants nearby—not to mention Lincoln Park itself—there’s no shortage of things to do before or after the show. Plenty of nearby public transportation is available. There is also metered parking surrounding the theater, and the theater offers valet parking for its patrons for a small fee.
