During its heyday from the 1930s to the ’60s, some of Broadway’s most prominent actors and actresses performed on the theater’s stage including Leslie Howard, Douglas Fairbanks, Helen Hayes and Lillian Gish. Over the years, productions like Urinetown the Musical, Bye Bye Birdie, Anything Goes and The Trip to Bountiful have graced its stage. Beautiful: The Carole King Musical is the most recent show to have residence at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre.
Located between 6th Avenue and Broadway, the theater is easily accessible by New York City’s public transportation system.
