Bluey's Big Play
Kennedy Center Eisenhower Theater
Washington, DC
Since opening its doors in 1971, Kennedy Center has served as a legendary hub for the arts in the United States. The vision for the venue began in 1958 when President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed bipartisan legislation creating a National Cultural Center. Following President John F. Kennedy’s assassination, Congress designated the center as a living memorial to him and authorized $23 million to be spent on its construction. It has become one of the greatest international stages in the world, hosting performances ranging from rock concerts to operas to Broadway productions.
Kennedy Center is home to the National Symphony Orchestra, Washington National Opera and Suzanne Ferrell Ballet. It also plays host to international performers and seasonal events. Programming is developed to engage the whole family, and the center boasts a roster of events intended to introduce both modern and traditional art forms to young people. The Millennium Stage offers free performances at 6 pm each night.
Located on the bank of the Potomac River, the picturesque venue is accessible by Metro, taxi and car. Parking is available onsite for a fee. Visitors are encouraged to pre-purchase a discounted parking pass, particularly on dates designated as “High Capacity Days,” when attendance surges at the venue.
Washington DC Visitors who arrive early to events at Kennedy Center can take in the breathtaking view of the nation’s capital, enjoy casual dining at KC Café or visit Roof Terrace Restaurant for fine dining and cocktails.
