After being coerced by friends to start rapping in 2010, Bas began experimenting with beats and exploring his own unique style of music characterized by thoughtful and versatile lyricism. After catching the attention of hip-hop sensation J.Cole, Bas followed his guidance and continuned to develop and hone his talents as a skilled rap artist. After inviting him to join as an opening act on his tour, Cole signed Bas to his Dreamville label. Bas released his debut album Last Winter in 2014, featuring guest vocals by Cole and Mack Wilds. The album debuted at the number 18 spot on the R&B/Hip-Hop chart. His second album brought on even more success for the rising artist, releasing Too High to Riot in 2015. The album reached the Top 10 of the R&B/Hip-Hop chart and cracked the Top 50 of the Billboard 200. His third effort Milky Way dropped in 2018, becoming his third consecutive Top 20 R&B/Hip-Hop entry.
