2019 Super Bowl LIII
In a huge upset, the Philadelphia Eagles claimed the Super bowl LII title, beating the competitive Patriots 41-33 in an intense game.
The New England Patriots were defending champions of Super Bowl LI. With their victory against the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Patriots secured their ninth consecutive AFC East title. They then defeated the Jacksonville Jaguars in the AFC Championship Game 24-20. The win made quarterback Tom Brady the oldest to win a playoff game. The Patriots are the only team to appear in 10 Super Bowls in NFL history, having won the title three times in four years (2001, 2003 and 2004), and again in 2017.
The Super Bowl LII Halftime Show featured Justin Timberlake as the lead performer in the 10-time Grammy winner and actor’s third appearance in a Super Bowl halftime show. Pop star P!nk performed the national anthem ahead of kickoff in her first Super Bowl appearance.
The Super Bowl is an annual American championship game under the National Football League (NFL). First played in 1967, the game is now entering its 52nd year and features the champions from the American Football Conference (AFC) playing the winning team from the National Football Conference (NFC) in hopes of taking home the Vince Lombardi Trophy. The Super Bowl is currently played the first Sunday in February and is the culmination to the regular football season that begins in the summer of the previous year. The Big Game is commonly the most-watched television broadcast each year and is also among the most-watched sporting events across the globe.
