Ticket demand to see the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus is surging following the news that the circus will perform its final show in May 2017. Event Tickets Center reported recent Ringling Brothers circus ticket sales are 17 times higher than sales in the weeks leading up to the January 15 announcement.
Event Tickets Center CEO Adam Young said he would expect a boost after an act announces its final shows, but that the huge jump in sales is indicative of the nostalgia many families feel toward “The greatest show on Earth.”
“Parents who remember attending the Ringling Bros. circus with their parents are wanting to take their kids to create those same memories,” Young said. “Any time an act, whether it’s music, Broadway or something like the circus, announces an end to its run we’ll see a spike but the sheer demand for one last experience with the Ringling Bros. is really off the charts.”
Young said demand for tickets is spread out across the country as Ringling Bros. hits places like Brooklyn, Orlando and Philadelphia. Sales particularly grew the most in Charlotte, N.C., Birmingham, Ala., and Tampa, Fla.
“We’re seeing sales from cities that simply weren’t there before the announcement that the circus was going to shut down,” Young said. “Big cities like these and smaller cities all show that the Ringling Bros.’ announcement created a rush on tickets.”
Young added that the demand hasn’t caused sellouts so far and, because Ringling Bros. will often do multiple shows in one city, chances still remain for families who want to take it in before the act shuts down for good in May.
