Tool have shared plans for a new run of shows taking place across the US this spring!
The newly announced dates will fill in the gaps where the band was already set to play – Welcome to Rockville in Jacksonville, FL on 5/5, Epicenter in Rockingham NC on 5/11, and Chicago Open Air on 5/19. The guys have penciled in additional stops in cities including Louisville, St. Louis, Kansas City, and Des Moines, making for a total run of 10 shows altogether.
Tool have long been teasing their highly anticipated follow-up album to 2006’s 10,000 Days, with frontman Maynard James Keenan sharing “Words & Melodies 100% DONE on all but 1” in February 2018.
One year later, he returned with another brief update; “Best Ballpark Guess- Release date somewhere between Mid May and Mid July.”
Despite the uncertainty of when fans can expect to hear some new material (for the first time in over 13 years!), one thing is crystal clear – a killer lineup of shows is taking place on stages across the US this spring. Check out a full list of dates below and secure your tickets today!
Who Is Tool?
Los Angeles-based group Tool first stepped into the spotlight with the release of their heavy metal debut album Undertow in 1993. The band would later establish themselves as a true force in the alt-metal genre with their sophomore effort Ænima in 1996, diving deeper into musical experimentation and scoring two Grammy Awards for Best Metal Performance and Best Recording Package. Lateralus followed in 2001, debuting at the number one spot on the Billboard 200 and earning the band their third Grammy Award for the hit track “Schism.” The group’s fourth album, 10,000 Days, arrived five years later in 2006 and would serve as the last release from the band in over a decade. Tool’s distinct use of visual arts, lyrical rants, and complex releases places their music in a category all its own, with many describing the band as a style-transcending act. Tool has cited experimental rock band The Melvins as well as prog-rock pioneer group King Crimson as major musical influences. Their fifth album is rumored to be hitting shelves in the summer of 2019.
