Liz Phair’s musical career began with the release of her self-recorded, homemade cassettes under the name Girly Sound. She became part of the alternative music scene in Chicago as a result, going on to sign a recording contract. Her 1993 debut studio album, Exile in Guyville was released to critical acclaim, and was named one of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time by Rolling Stone. Phair has earned herself two Grammy Award nominations and released a total of six studio albums in a successful career that’s spanned over two decades. In 2018 it was announced that she would be releasing a retrospective set for Exile in Guyville, including remastered recordings of her Girly Sound demo cassettes.
