Lovingly called “The Bank” or “The Vault” by fans, the Bank of America Stadium is home to the NFL’s Carolina Panthers
in Charlotte, N.C. The team commissioned its construction when they formed in 1996, creating a space specifically for their needs—complete with six massive panther sculptures guarding the entrances. Collectively called the Indomitable Spirits, the fierce-looking felines are the largest sculptures ever commissioned in the U.S.
With space for over 75,000 fans, the bowl-shaped stadium features six domes equipped with LED lights that shine “process blue” light, the team’s custom team color. The sprawling 33-acre grounds house several practice fields, training facilities and offices.
The Bank hosts every Panthers’ home game during the football season, including the playoffs. In addition, the Belk Bowl, which pits ACC and SEC teams against one another, takes place there every year. FIFA matches and college soccer games are regularly held at Bank of America Stadium Charlotte, along with concerts from headliners like the Rolling Stones, Kenny Chesney and Tim McGraw.
Getting to The Bank is easy—it’s just off Interstate 277 in central Charlotte. Several parking lots are nearby on Mint and South Poplar Streets, and it’s not uncommon to find fans tailgating before each game. There are dozens of concession options at the stadium, but for those who prefer a sit-down meal, Uptown Charlotte offers plenty of restaurants for every palate just a short walk away.
The stadium is open-air, so it’s a good idea to check the weather before events and plan accordingly. Panthers fans have endured heavy rain, severe wind, and even a storm in which lightning touched down within the stadium. (No one was hurt.)
