Gershwin Theatre Information:
The George Gershwin Theatre is located in New York City, and is one of the biggest tourist attractions in the area. This venue is most commonly referred to as the Gershwin Theatre, and has been for quite some time. Since opening its doors in 1972 this venue has been home to some of the greatest shows in the area. For this reason, the Gershwin Theatre greets thousands of people year in and year out. Not only do a lot of native New Yorkers visit the theater on a regular basis, but tourists come from all over the world to catch a glimpse of this landmark.
The Gershwin Theatre was originally built in 1972 and was known as the Uris Theatre. During the Tony Awards in 1983 this venue changed its name to the Gershwin Theatre to honor George Gershwin, the great composer. The first show to ever take place at this venue was Via Galactica the musical. Since then hundreds of different shows have taken place inside.
Wicked, a Tony Award winning musical, is the most popular show at the Gershwin Theatre at this time. People from all over the world are flocking to the Gershwin Theatre in order to see this musical. Not only will you get to see one of the greatest musical of this era, but doing so in the Gershwin Theatre is a pleasure in its own right.
