Meet ASAP Rocky
ASAP Rocky (real name Rakim Mayers) is an American hip-hop artist from Harlem, New York. Gaining notoriety as a member of ASAP Mob, Mayers released his debut mixtape “Live. Love. ASAP.” on Halloween night 2011. The mixtape was met with widespread critical acclaim, which led to his debut album “Long. Live. ASAP” in January of 2013. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 charts, a feat that would be matched by his follow-up album “At. Long. Last. ASAP.” when it released in May of 2015.
Mayers’s style is characterized by his smooth delivery and impeccable timing, as he seemingly draws out rhyming patterns over unique beats that shouldn’t work together, yet do. His lyrics echo the complicated day-to-day lives of inner city youth, and he has found a connection to his dedicated fan base. The popularity of his videos, both his own and ones he produced for other ASAP Mob members, have even pushed his commercial success into the mainstream pop charts. Mayers has found a winning formula, and his sold out shows across North America are the proof.
