What to Expect: Lynyrd Skynyrd & Foreigner

When you’re attending a Lynyrd Skynyrd and Foreigner concert, prepare to be engulfed in the carefree, rebel spirit of 1970s rock. Prepare to have your phone flashlight swaying as you listen to one of the best guitar solos of all time from the band that created it.

The show is both an epic rock concert and a tribute to the original band members all in one. Many poignant moments are bookended by explosive music. Prepare for any kind of surprise; Skynyrd’s set got rained on during the first Atlanta show, so you’ll want to check the weather before heading to the venue. Tour Tributes

Lynyrd Skynyrd is fronted by Johnny Van Zant, the younger brother of the late Ronnie Van Zant, the original lead singer. During “Free Bird,” a video of Ronnie Van Zant is played as a tribute, and his hat rests on the microphone stand on stage to honor his legacy.

During another portion of the show, the screen plays the names of all original members of Lynyrd Skynyrd and Foreigner who have passed.

Opening Act

The opener is Six Gun Sally, a Southern rock band and cover band known for their gritty, 70s-inspired sound. The band takes the stage right around the show’s start time and plays for around 30 to 45 minutes.

When to Arrive

Arrive at the show around door time for the smoothest entry experience. Door time varies by venue, but it is typically an hour or two before show time. If you arrive at 5:30 PM for a 6:30 PM show start time, you’ll have plenty of time to get through security, find your seats, and explore the venue.

How Long Is a Lynyrd Skynyrd & Foreigner Concert

Foreigner is the first headliner to take the stage around 50 minutes after showtime. At 6:30 PM shows, Foreigner takes the stage around 7:20 PM. Lynyrd Skynyrd closes out the show, beginning their headlining set around 9:00 PM for a 6:30 PM showtime. The entire show, including the opener, lasts over four and a half hours. Wear comfortable shoes and prepare for a lengthy ride for this once-in-a-lifetime double feature.

Setlist

The tour setlist features the greatest career hits of not one but two legacy bands. Foreigner plays “Cold as Ice,” “Juke Box Hero,” and more hits, closing with an encore which includes “I Want to Know What Love Is.”

With the crowd warmed and ready to go, Skynyrd takes the stage and performs both covers and original hits, with songs like “Call Me the Breeze” by J.J. Cale, and their greatest hits like “Simple Man” and, of course, “Free Bird.”
