The Washington Wizards compete in the Eastern Conference of the National Basketball Association. Although they were founded in 1961, they have not always been known as the Washington Wizards. From 1961 to 1962 they were known as the Chicago Packers; from 1962 to 1963 the Chicago Zephyrs; from 1963 to 1972 the Baltimore Bullets; from 1973 to 1974 the Capital Bullets; from 1974 to 1997 the Washington Bullets; and then in 1997 they finally became the Washington Wizards.

The Wizards play their home games at the Capital One Arena located in Washington, D.C. They began playing in this venue in 1997, and have been there ever since. While the Capital One Arena is not as new as some other arenas in the NBA, it is one of the most modern in the entire league.

Many great players have competed for the Wizards over the years. Some of the best include Wes Unseld, Moses Malone, Elvin Hayes, and Michael Jordan among many others.

Although the team has moved around quite a bit over the years, the Wizards still have a large fan base that follow them everywhere they go.

The Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. is an indoor multi-use venue. Since opening its doors in December 1997 this venue has played host to thousands of sporting events, concerts, and shows. With so much traffic coming in and out of this arena on a regular basis it is easy to see why so many people regard it as one of the best venues in the eastern part of the country.
The Capital One Arena currently has three primary tenants. They include the Washington Wizards of the NBA, the Washington Mystics of the WNBA, and the Washington Capitals of the NHL. Additionally, the Georgetown University men's basketball team also uses the Capital One Arena for the majority of their home games. As you can imagine, these basketball and hockey games alone keep this arena busy for a very good part of the year.

The capacity of the Capital One Arena is approximately 20,173 fans for basketball games, and 18,277 for hockey. When other events such as concerts and special shows come to town the capacity is right around 20,000.

There have been many top of the line events that have played out inside the Capital One Arena since 1997. Some of the more famous ones include the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament in 1998, 2002, and 2006, the NBA All Star Game in 2001, the WNBA All Star Game in 2002 and 2007, and many more. Remember, these are just the sporting events that have taken place at the Capital One Arena. Every year some of the best musical performers in the country stop by for a show at this venue.

With so much to offer the Capital One Arena is one of the busiest venues in the nation's capital year in and year out.
