Guitar virtuoso Tony MacAlpine’s career in music began as a classically-trained pianist and violinist. His subsequent recordings reflect a pronounced classical influence, balancing elements of jazz and fusion as well. MacAlpine made his debut in 1986 with the instrumental album Edge of Insanity. Over the course of his 30+ year career, he would go on to release eleven more albums as a solo artist, and several more as a collaborative artist or guest guitarist. MacAlpine is known for his highly advanced style of playing and shred techniques, including “sweep tapping,” a variation of sweep picking.
