Meet The Cinematic Orchestra
Nu jazz/electronic music group The Cinematic Orchestra was founded in 1999 by Jason Swinscoe. Swinscoe had previously formed another band, Crabladder, while in college, experimenting with elements of jazz and hardcore punk and eventually exploring the possibilities of sampling. By the time of the band’s demise in the mid-1990s, Swinscoe had begun regularly DJing at various clubs and radio stations across the UK. His solo projects began to incorporate elements of ‘60s and ‘70s jazz, orchestral soundtracks, rhythm loops, and live instrumentation. It was this sound and style that would serve as the foundation for The Cinematic Orchestra, which features a group of live musicians improvising over sampled percussion and bass lines. The Cinematic Orchestra has released four studio albums, and two film soundtrack albums.
