Meet The Chieftains

The Chieftains are an Irish folk band based out of Dublin, formed in 1962. The group plays traditional Irish music, and has undergone multiple band lineup changes. They did not achieve international success until their contributions to Van Morrison’s 1988 album Irish Heartbeat. This album revolutionized Irish music’s influence in America, as the group went on to collaborate with a vast number of other top-tier musicians. It could be stated that the Chieftains are widely responsible for presenting Irish music to a global audience, and have helped to contribute to the growing number of Irish folk groups in America.
