The New Orleans Bowl

The New Orleans Bowl is an NCAA-sanctioned post-season college football bowl game that has been played annually since 2001. It is normally held at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana; when the Superdome and the rest of the city suffered damage due to Hurricane Katrina in 2005, the game was temporarily moved to Cajun Field in Lafayette, Louisiana, and given the name New Orleans Bowl at Lafayette.

The game was created as part of a bowl expansion in 2001 and was one of six new bowls that were added to the bowl lineup that year. The game was originally scheduled to be played at Yulman Stadium, but the stadium was closed for renovations at the time, so the game was moved to the Superdome.

The inaugural New Orleans Bowl was played on December 18, 2001, and featured the Colorado State Rams and the North Texas Mean Green. Rams won the game by a score of 45-20.

The New Orleans Bowl has been played every year since its inception, with the exception of 2005, when the game was moved to Lafayette due to Hurricane Katrina. The game has been won by 15 different teams, with the Southern Miss Golden Eagles having the most wins with 4.
