5 Tips For Attending an Event at an Outdoor Venue

Tips for outdoor events.
From amphitheaters to arenas, there are plenty of venues where you can attend concerts and sporting events in the great outdoors. These spots are often extra scenic, but they do sometimes require a bit of extra planning before you go. Here are some tips to keep in mind when attending your next outdoor event.

Use Sunscreen

Doctors and mothers around the world will agree on this one: Wear sunscreen. This obviously applies to daytime events, but don’t forget those nighttime events where you arrive early before the sun goes down. A little sunscreen can save a lot of pain later.

Take Rain Gear

Whether it's a full-blown rain parka with galoshes when you know it’s going to rain the whole time, or a $3 see-through plastic poncho from the corner drug store, you’re not going to regret staying dry when the clouds open up. Because the show must go on, and you don’t want to miss it because of a little rain.

Hydrate

This is especially true in the hotter months; be sure to take and drink plenty of water. Finding water at the venue isn’t always as easy as you might think, and if you take your own (in a venue-approved clear plastic water bottle), you save a few bucks over venue concession pricing.

Dress for Comfort

You’re going to be outside for hours at a time, so dress in a way that will be the most comfortable—not necessarily the best looking. It may be hot, it may be raining, it may be humid and it may be crowded. Comfort is the best way to weather the challenges while enjoying your experience.

Check the Bag Policy

You need some way to carry all your stuff in, so checking the bag policy for the venue before you go is a must. For example, if you’re attending a game or concert at an NFL stadium, you’ll have to follow their bag policy, which is limited to bags that are clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and do not exceed 12" x 6" x 12". Or a gallon zipper freezer bag. Otherwise you can expect to get turned away at the gate.
