Meet Neil Sedaka
Neil Sedaka is an American singer, songwriter, and producer from Brooklyn, New York. Showing early signs of talent, his mother bought him an upright piano when he was in the second grade. This led him to being accepted to the Julliard School of Music, and eventually to meeting his friend and partner Howard Greenfield. Sedaka published his first song at the tender age of 13.
Sedaka initially rose to fame in the fifties, and then scored his first top ten hit in 1959 with “Oh! Carol”. Sedaka continued churning out hits throughout the sixties until his popularity began to wane. Sedaka regained momentum again in the seventies with the release of “The Tra-La Days Are Over” in 1973.
Sedaka continued to produce music himself, and wrote songs for many other artists throughout his career including Connie Francis and Jimmy Clanton. Modern pop artists such as Ben Folds continue to cite Sedaka as one of their greatest influences, and history will remember him as one of America’s greatest musical talents.
