The Lucas Theatre for the Arts is an iconic artistic venue located in downtown Savannah, Georgia. Opened in 1921 as a vaudeville theatre, it has been a cultural hub of the greater Savannah area ever since. It was established by Jacob Schoen & Sons Funeral Home owners Mr. and Mrs. William J. Lucas and named after their son as well as Mr. and Mrs. Sigmund Rothschild. Over the decades, it has attracted big-name artists such as Glenn Miller and Bob Hope to perform on its stage while also regularly hosting smaller events such as lectures, classic movie showings, concerts, school performances, and even ballets. Today the theatre not only provides entertainment but also houses art galleries with rotating exhibits of local artwork which can often be seen by community members.
